Shazam!

I didn’t read a lot of mainstream comics as a kid/teen; I preferred titles like “Creepy” and “Eerie” Magazine, black and white sci-fi/horror-based monthlies that look a lot like today’s graphic novels. However, I do seem to recall one particular mainstream super hero whose powers I envied – Captain Marvel.

CM Split

Technically-speaking, this is the mid-60’s Captain Marvel, not the original 1940’s Captain Marvel (I don’t want die-hard comic fans scolding me, LOL!) Anyway, among his other many talents, it seems to me he could utter the word “SHAZAM!” and be split into separate body parts, each performing a separate mission to do good.

Captain Marvel

To be honest, I guess I also wanted a “bod” like Captain Marvel while in reality, this is probably much more how I would look as a super hero –

Anyway, I guess I envy the Captain’s ability to split and be in several places at once. This week is the perfect example of how I wish I could utter “SHAZAM!”

Today is Father’s Day. Now, if I go home today to see my Dad, I can also catch my brother, sister-in-law and my niece and nephew. However, my oldest niece, her husband and my new GREAT nephew are coming from Tennessee to Ohio late Tuesday/early Wednesday and are spending a few days at the lake with my sister, her partner and their three daughters, as well as my aforementioned sister-in-law and my niece and nephew – but now I have “lost” my brother and my Dad. That group will be at the lake until Friday, when they will be returning to their separate homes. On the way back to THEIR home, my sister, her partner, my three nieces, my adult niece, her husband and my new great nephew are stopping by my Dad’s house for dinner. So – the score is now a “gain” of Dad but a “loss” of my sister-in-law, my other niece and nephew and my bro is still out of the picture. Or, I can wait till Saturday, drive to my younger sister’s house for an all-day cook-out/pool party, but then I lose Dad, my brother and sister-in-law and a niece and nephew. My oldest niece, her husband and my new great nephew return to Tennessee next Sunday.

No matter how I try, I cannot get them all together in one place on one day. SHAZAM!

Every one keeps telling me to “…just do what you wanna’ do” but, in my head that sentence sounds like, “…if you pick one day over another and I am not there on the day you pick, that means you love somebody else more than me.” UGH.

Now, factoring into this decision are (what feels like) a bahjillion logistical issues – my work schedule, my business partner, my life partner and my sanity. I have previous obligations, commitments and responsibilities to all four. Don’t get me wrong, my business partner and my Sweetie are both SUPER understanding and accommodating, but how do you choose? Which one gets “disappointed” by my absence? (I know, that sounds SO egocentric but that is how it feels). None of the scenarios/locations mentioned involve anything less than four hours round-trip drive times.┬áNow do you understand why I want to be Captain Marvel? It would be amazing to be able to be in several places at once – although then they would fight over who “gets my head” and who “has to feed me,” LOL! Wish me luck – Happy Father’s Day, everyone!
